Site Name: College Possible Texas
Position Title: Lead AmeriCorps Peer Mentor Coach
Department: Program
Reports to: Program Manager
FLSA Status: N/A (Exception)
Lead AmeriCorps Peer Mentor Coach will serve in a Quarter Time (QT)
capacity during a 10-month term of service from August 2025 - May,
2026. Applicants should possess a sincere interest in empowering
youth and a passion for higher education. Applicants should possess
strong interpersonal, organizational, and research skills to assist
College Possible Texas with providing college completion services
to more than 3,000 collegians and improve and build the
sustainability and success rate of the program in order to serve a
rapidly increasing number of college students and graduates. These
members will each serve more than 450 hours to help expand college
access for low-income and first-generation students while gaining
professional skills and earning an Education Award upon successful
completion of term requirements. Together, these individuals will
work closely and plan strategically to meet organizational
objectives in a timely manner. Lead Peer Mentor Coaches will be
expected to build and maintain congenial professional relationships
internally and externally and will represent College Possible Texas
to the public. Successful applicants will possess a sincere
interest in helping empower other youth to pursue higher
education.

NOTE: Mandatory pre-service orientation will take place during the
first week of service. Members are also required to meet for staff
meetings on a monthly basis. This position will have reoccurring
access to vulnerable populations. In addition, all AmeriCorps
members are required to be easily identifiable as AmeriCorps
Members. Members must wear the AmeriCorps logo, visibly, daily.
In the event of a local, state, or federal disaster declaration,
AmeriCorps members may be asked on a volunteer basis or be required
by OneStar to activate to assist in disaster response and recovery
activities within their communities. This may involve virtual
service opportunities or in-person service opportunities. This may
include service opportunities outside of the member's standard
service hours or in place of their standard service duties. In the
event of a large-scale, high needs local, state, or federal
disaster, AmeriCorps members may voluntarily or be required by
OneStar to deploy to an area outside of their service area to
assist in disaster response and recovery activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and host campus events
Research program-specific needs and conduct outreach to other
College Possible Texas students.
Provide students direct college transition mentoring and support in
areas including, but not limited to: freshman orientation, course
registration, and financial aid/FAFSA issues.
Conduct research, provide referrals, arrange meetings, and
accompany students to appointments as necessary.
Assist College Possible Texas staff and leadership team with
program design improvement.
Represent the organization to school personnel, professional
organizations, educators, funders, and the public.
Ensure program compliance with administrative policies and
procedures, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
(FERPA).
Organize and maintain up-to-date files; coordinate and maintain
database and spreadsheet files, producing frequent reports.
Plan and host campus events
Participate in a College Possible Texas committee and/or
taskforce
Help organize Google Drive on a monthly basis
ANCILLARY FUNCTIONS:
Coordinate with the supervisor and full-time members to order,
maintain, and inventory program supplies and files.
Think and plan strategically to support organizational stability
and success.
Respect and maintain the organizational mission, ethos, and core
values.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
College Possible Texas is a dynamic, progressive and youth-focused
working environment. The noise level in the work environment can be
moderate to loud. Responsibilities may frequently require an
adjusted work schedule and/or evening/weekend hours in order to
meet deadlines or satisfy program requirements.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise volunteers and/or students as necessary at organizational
and/or service events.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able
to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements
listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability

All AmeriCorps members must also pass a comprehensive criminal
background check.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma; successful past
participation in the College Possible Texas program; a track record
of actively pursuing a baccalaureate degree from an accredited,
academically-recognized four-year college or university; two years
related experience; or equivalent combination of education and
experience. Must have completed at least one QT service term at
College Possible Texas.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Excellent communication skills; English/Spanish
fluency strongly preferred. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret
general educational and business periodicals, professional
journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure
manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to
questions from the general public, clients, students, partners, and
managers.
COMPUTER AND MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Demonstrated proficiency with
personal computers and standard office software such as Microsoft
Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access. Ability to work with standard,
high school-level mathematical concepts such as probability,
arithmetic, geometry, algebra and trigonometry for purposes of
monitoring program statistics. Ability to apply such concepts as
fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical
situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal
with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only
limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of
instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule
form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this position, the
AmeriCorps member is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The
AmeriCorps member is occasionally required to walk; reach with
hands and arms; climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or
crawl. The AmeriCorps member may occasionally lift and/or move up
to 50 pounds. The physical demands described here are
representative of those that are typically required of members to
successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
